CityUHK UN-FIRST Programme Participates in Shing Mun Campsite Clean-up

12 October 2026

The UN-FIRST Programme, together with students from the School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at CityUHK, community volunteers from Trailsweeper, and staff from i2Cool Limited, participated in the Shing Mun Campsite Clean-up in Hong Kong on 11 October 2026.

Held following the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays, the event brought together around 30 participants to help clean campsites, hiking trails, and the surrounding natural environment, collecting a total of 8 kg of litter. Through hands-on participation, attendees were encouraged to take an active role in environmental protection and adopt more sustainable habits in their daily lives.

The activity also provided valuable learning opportunities for students and young participants, helping them better understand the environmental impact of human activities and the importance of responsible waste management. By taking part in the clean-up effort, participants saw firsthand how littering can affect local ecosystems and gained greater awareness of the broader challenge of waste pollution facing natural environments worldwide. Such experiences help cultivate environmental stewardship and empower the next generation to contribute to a more sustainable future.

The UN-FIRST Programme thanks all participating organizations and volunteers for their contributions and looks forward to continuing its efforts to promote environmental conservation, public awareness, and community engagement.
