Prof. Angus Yip Showcases FIRST's Sustainable Energy Innovations at TEA@SUNRISE Symposium 2026

Prof. Angus Yip, Chair Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at City University of Hong Kong and a project team member of the UN-FIRST Programme, represented the FIRST Programme at the TEA@SUNRISE Symposium 2026, held from 11 to 16 January 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The six-day symposium brought together experts from more than 35 countries across Africa, Asia, and Europe to exchange knowledge and explore emerging developments in sustainable energy technologies.
As part of the symposium, Prof. Yip delivered a keynote presentation entitled “Advancing Sustainable Energy: The Role of UNESCO-Endorsed FIRST Programme and Perovskite Photovoltaic Technology.” The presentation highlighted FIRST’s mission of translating research and innovation into practical solutions for sustainable development, with a particular focus on the potential of printable, low-cost perovskite solar technologies to expand access to clean energy in underprivileged communities.
The symposium provided a valuable platform for strengthening international dialogue and collaboration on next-generation renewable energy solutions. Through discussions with participants from around the world, the FIRST Programme shared its vision of advancing affordable, climate-resilient, and sustainable technologies that address real-world challenges and improve quality of life.
A key theme of the symposium was the importance of accelerating the global transition to clean energy while ensuring equitable access and sustainable development.
